If you read my post daily then you know much better about ISRO cartosat 3  i talked about Cartosat 3 satellite that how it is most powerful, complex and advance earth observation satellite ever developed by ISRO (Click here to read Cartosat 3 post). Today i am going to tell you about Risat 2br1 that whats so special about it, and how it is different from Cartosat 3 and how we are going to use this on spying on neighbouring countries. First of all Risat means radar imaging satellite, now a question may arise in your mind that if we already have powerful earth observation satellite like Cartosat 3 which is capable in detecting 25cm small object on earth surface, then why do we need Risat in first place.

We need this because both satellites work quite differently, Cartosat 3 works like a normal camera in which it captures reflections from sunlight to click images of earth but Risat works in totally different manner. As its name implies radar imaging satellite instead of capturing reflection from sunlight risat sends its own radar beam towards earth then it records the reflection of this beam to fabricate a perfect map of surface. In simple words, it works exactly like a submarine uses sonar to detects objects while navigating under water or like bats use ultrasonic waves to detects their prey and find path at night. If you compare images taken from Cartosat 3 and Risat satellites then you will find a huge difference in both of them. Look, these are the images taken from Cartosat 3 which is just like an image we capture using a camera.

Whereas this photo is taken by Risat, which is quite different from images taken by normal satellite.

Now you can wonder if we have such high defination images taken from Cartosat 3 then why do we need to take images using radar system. Well just think about it, what if we wanted to take pictures of areas near kashmir but due to bad weather its cloudy then at moment like this Cartosat 3 will not be able to take images, but since risat uses radar image system. Whatever the weather is, we will be able to keep track of whichever place we want and whenever we want. Therefore we are going to use this in surveillance of border sectors. One more advantage is that we can overlap images taken from Cartosat 3 and Risat which will eventually increase the precision of the image many folds. In simple words no one can escape our eyes, some experts say that if we had these satellites at the time of airstrike in balakot pakistan then we would not have needed to borrow high definition images from foreign satellites. Risat will also serve to provide information in fields like agriculture, forestry and disaster management. I hope that you have understood everything about Risat satellite.
